The smart choice in the Rotterdam area

Port depth

The Moerdijk port is accessible to seagoing vessels with a draught of 8.40 metres plus or minus Amsterdam Ordinance Datum (NAP) in fresh water. In the Central Harbour basin this is 8.90 metres (depending on circumstances such as, among other things, tides). The maximum height of seagoing vessels sailing into Moerdijk is 45.00 metres at NAP water level.
The maximum length of seagoing vessels is LOA 201.00 metres and the maximum beam is 32.00 metres.

Central Harbour basin:

In situation 1:
The actual water level is NAP. The maximum draught is 85 dm.

In situation 2:
The actual water level is NAP + increase (rise) X.  The maximum draught is now 85 dm + X, with a maximum of 89 dm in fresh water. The UKC (Under Keel Clearance) in the Moerdijk port is minimally 5% of the actual draught, in this example 4.5 dm.

Remark: the increase/rise X can be negative.

The actual water level is NAP. The maximal draught is 80 dm.

In situation 2:
The actual water level is NAP + increase (rise) X. The maximum draught is 80 dm + X, with a maximum of 84 dm in fresh water.

Remarks:
The Under Keel Clearance (UKC) in the Moerdijk port is a minimum of 5% of the actual draught and is applicable to all waterways and ports.
The increase/rise X can be negative.

The actual depth of the water at the mooring can vary in relation to the indicated depths in the harbours. This is the responsibility of the owners of the facilities.

Besides the restrictions imposed by the Moerdijk Port Authority, there are other limitations for the Oude Maas and Dordtse Kil waterways. These restrictions fall under the responsibility of RWS and the Port Authority of Rotterdam.

For vessels that sail to and from Moerdijk with a LOA > 175 metres, a special exemption must be requested from RWS.
